Reading have clinched the permanent signing of Andy Griffin after paying Stoke City a nominal fee for the full-back. Griffin enjoyed a loan spell at Reading in the second half of last season and made 21 appearances during his time with the Championship club. Royals boss Brian McDermott has been anxious to bring Griffin back to the Madejski Stadium and the defender has now signed a two-year contract. "I'm very pleased to sign permanently because I know the club, I know the manager and I know we've got a great bunch of players, both as footballers and as people," Griffin told the club's official website. "I had a good relationship with the fans and everyone at the club so I feel at home here and I'm looking forward to the season. "The fans seemed to take to me so hopefully I must have done something right. They play a huge part, a football club is nothing without its supporters and that played a part in my decision, no question." Popular figure McDermott added: "This has been a long time coming, but good things come to those who wait. I know the supporters will be delighted, as I am. "He was my first signing, and from day one he recognised how important he is. The younger lads gravitate towards him, they wanted him here and he is a very popular figure. "We're getting so much experience, a guy who has been captain of a team who won this league. He knows what is required over 46 games." SkySportsA good move for all parties

We were after him reportedly before our embargo.
