Danny Cadamarteri is set to leave Huddersfield Town in the summer after rejecting the club's latest contract offer.
The former Bradford City and Sheffield United striker has spent the past two seasons with the Terriers scoring five goals from 49 appearances.
Terriers manager Lee Clark believes the West Yorkshire side offered a fair deal to the 29-year-old, but concedes it is the player's prerogative whether to seek a better contract elsewhere.
Clark now admits that he will be looking to bring in another attacking option with Cadamarteri set for pastures new next season, with Dundee United strongly linked with a bid.
Exercised the option "We think that the contract offer we made to Danny was a fair one, but he has exercised the option of talking to other clubs given his current deal is coming to an end," Clark told the club's official website.
"In order for him to get the second year of his contract he would have needed to be involved in the first team for a certain number of games, but he was looking for the certainty of a longer deal.
"We wanted him to stay at Huddersfield Town and we made it clear to him and his agent that we wanted him to be a part of what we are doing here, but he has decided to go elsewhere in his football career.
"I wish him every success; he is a good lad and he has done very well for us. We're disappointed because we wanted to keep him, but we have to move on and I will look to bring somebody else in."

cads has been one of our best players since lee clark took over. he has had some injury problems but since steve black (fitness coach, worked with wales national team and others) has come in, he's only missed 4 or 5 games, 2 of which were clark's fault for bringing him back too early.
he isntreally a striker, he's a second forward or winger. but i would give him the 2 year contract unless clark thinks he can bring in a target man and a couple of other (and novak) in the summer.
