Newcastle let ,me down once again today. I'm left bitterly disappointed at a game where I honestly thought we might put in at least a display in. The lads were not up for the game today. They didn't play as a team and ultimately it cost us and cost us dear!
The re-shuffling of the back line didn't help and as per usual the midfield wasn't up to the challenge. However these are excuses which are meaningless anymore, purely unacceptable.
Kinnear made the correct substitutions I think, considering how the game was going but his starting team was wrongly chosen in my opinion. Taylor wasn't fit and Edgar, well he's not a very good player and I cannot see why he kept a capable (albeit not brilliant) right back in Geremi on the bench when it was clear it wouldn't work.
The third goal won it for Liverpool. Before that we started to look a bit brighter after the half time talk, as we tend to do under Kinnear but when the third went it, they just gave up all hope of getting back into it.
Personally I am sick and tired of these same excuses that have been said over the years. I watched the game with 13 Liverpool fans all of which after hours of gloating (which is always the Liverpool way) told me that Newcastle just need one or two good players. I'm tired of waiting for these "one or two good players" to show up. It really needs to be done NOW!!!!!!
I recognize that it's going to be a patch up job for the team in January, couple in to steady the ship and keep us towards the mid table mark but in the summer I want to see big changes to the squad. I especially want this focus put on Micheal Owen to finish because it's distracting the attention of the manager towards the key places that need improving I feel.
Today was a game where all the hard work over the last few months, all the confidence built up and momentum has come to a crashing halt. It's stopped! I think that annoys me most and I think that's going to annoy me most. We'd just gotten back on form and losing 5-1 to Liverpool has just crushed us mentally and shown us that we're miles away from being a good squad again.
On the point of Liverpool then. They played well, some silly mistakes at the back but other then that they were a strong team. Umm, I was surprised at Keane's bench position but that's the coach's choice sooo he takes the blame if it all goes belly up. really though they never had to be good, Newcastle gifted them this victory and they took it with open arms. Congratulations to them.
I can only take two positives from this game. The first is that Spurs lost later in the day sooo...that makes me feel a tad bit better. The second is that we can't play as badly again in 2008
Bad day
