The fact is you cannot answer you is the "best band" of all time. If you want to know the basis for all modern bands look no further than the beatles, they must be the most influential band of all time. No band can really be "better than the beatles" because the fact is they set the standard and any one since has basically been a variation of that. Anybody who says the beatles or u2 are "s***" have no idea what theyre talking about and appear to be arguing from the perspective of a 5 year old child describing his new action man. Because s*** suggests they are crap at playing music, what you mean to say is that you do not like them. Much like Elvis i dont not like a lot of his music....however i have so much respect for him and what he did for the music industry. Bit like Cristiano Ronaldo i f****** hate him, but i cant deny he is an amazing player. There are many bands that can be called "the best" for so many different reasons
Beatles - purely for their contribution to the music industry and most of the music we listen to today. Queen - there has never been or never will be a better showman than Freddie Mercury. AC/DC,Black sabbath,Iron maiden, deep purple - each for their abilities to keep going and continuing to produce great rock music that has defined the rock industry for countless years. Led zepplin - the name speaks for itself, page and plant were amazing together for years and are still going now doing some solo stuff, particlurly Robert plant. Pink floyd - purely for their devotion to music, they dont care that the music theyre creating does not appeal to everybody but they dont care because they enjoy making it. Green day - Green day are to thank for most of the punk rock bands now coming out of america, very much an influential band, and theyve stuck to their same style of music for over a decade. Nirvana - started the grunge era (late 80s early 90s) although grunge appears now to have died nobody will forget bands like Nirvana, soundgarden,Alice in chains.purely because of what they meant to their fans at the time. Oasis - have done great things for British music in recent year and up until the latest album (dont believe the truth) they have never really gone away from their original roots.
I have missed out so many bands but im now off to bed as its my 18th birthday tomorrow, but i just thought i would show that not all teenagers have an ignorant view on music.

If people are suggesting Oasis, I'm going to throw Radiohead into the mix. They've been more consistent than Oasis - who've never surpassed Definetly Maybe. OK Computer is regarded by most Critics as the best British album of the 90's. Generally I just think their stuff is deeper. Plus they don't steel all their riffs!

if someone asked me the 4 most well known songs in the last 15 years i would say 3 are by oasis; live forever, wonderwall, dont look back in anger and robbie williams - angels and no-one say boyzone or backstreet boys cos the only people who like them are girls between the ages of 7 and 12

Oasis never surpassed their first album, what rubbish! Of course you are forgettin the album that they are way more famous for, that of course being Whats the story morning glory. The reason Definitly maybe got all the hype last year is because it was 10 years since it was originally released. As time progress so did oasis's abilty to make music and Heathen Chemistry showed this. And how can you claim that Radiohead are more consistent than Oasis. Oasis being a band that has stuck to the same style of music and not changed in over 10 years, still as popular as ever. How could Oasis be anymore consistent? I am not disputing your argument that Radioheads music is way more deeper.

Whats the Story Morning Glory is only famous for it's singles; Wonderwall, Don't Look Back In Anger, Champagne Super Nova. IMHO Definitely Maybe is a far better album, there are no songs you flick past when you are listening to that album. Morning Glory has you endlessly listening to Wonderwall and ignoring the rest of the songs. None of the albums following up Morning Glory were near the standard of Definitely Maybe, I've heard Noel Gallagher echo those feelings. I wasn't implying that Oasis hadn't been consistently popular, just that their albums after the dizzying heights of Definitely Maybe have consistently fallen short of that standard.
I like all of Radioheads albums equally, hence I think they have been consistently better. Obviously this is all about opinions though.
P.S. You said earlier Nirvana started the grunge scene and it has since died, I really don't think thats accurate, the grunge scene was there prior to Nirvana and it is still there today, Nirvana merely took it into the mainstream for a few years and a couple of bands followed them, then once Cobain died it faded back where it belonged.
